Amir Khan outclassed and outpointed Andreas Kotelnik to claim the WBA light-welterweight crown in emphatic fashion at the MEN Arena in Manchester.

Khan, 22, controlled the contest throughout, using his greater hand-speed and jab to frustrate and confound his Ukrainian opponent.

Khan landed 170 punches to Kotelnik's 80 and was awarded the fight 120-108 and 118-111 (twice) by the judges.

It was only Khan's 22nd bout since turning professional in 2005.

I've watched the highlights of this and again its the speed of his combinations that seem to beat his opponents. I'm not his greatest fan but credit where credits due. His stamina is very good but I'm still doubting that glass chin.

He's talked about a potential fight with Hatton and stamina is the only thing he has that would give him an edge but any clean strike to the jaw would end him (not sure what division they would fight in either).

Congrats on a world title, but not a great fighter by any means

He did very well - found a defence from somewhere - that won it for him.

Not sure how good he is - time will tell - needs to work more on his defence - n yes, his chin has a huge ??? over it.

All the same - well done - very proud of him!

At the very least, he has answered a few critics. He has become one of the youngest world champions. More importantly, as Tick suggests, he showed a new style.

Before this fight, he ran in swinging and knocked everyone out, until he was found out. In this fight, he showed a more technical side to his game and though it still needs some improvement, it shows he is taking advice from other people under his belt. He has identified where things went wrong in the past and has begun to rectify these problems.

Well done.
