Once Rooney was replaced by Milner, Gerrard was moved further forward and he looked the best he has for England in ages if not ever. It was the first time Capello has deployed Gerrard as the playmaker in a 4-2-3-1 and creates interesting selection and formation debates.
You can say it was a no-win game for Capello, if England had lost it would have been another embarrassment, and there would have bee cries for him to be sacked. However, the victory will be downplayed as being recorded against a poor side, although Hungary isn't any worse than Algeria and Slovenia.
It was good to see Capello’s desire to try out new formations and different combinations of players after the major criticism from the World Cup was that England were too rigid and didn’t have a plan B. Maybe Capello has learned something by the World Cup debacle.
