IPL to be staged outside India

Next month's Indian Premier League will be held outside the country after organisers failed to secure government approval for the matches to go ahead.

The tournament, which runs from 10 April to 24 May, clashes with the upcoming Indian general election, prompting fears over security.

England, South Africa and Dubai are all potential alternative hosts.

Giles Clark (the ECB chairman) has already said England are ready to help, though I feel Dubai are in for a good shout here. I reckon that those who had securtiy fears going to India in the first place may be happy with this.

Better weather, better resources and easier to prepare over there supposedly.

Only problems I see are mass movement of people in a big country - do teams get home grounds? and ticket prices as they cost around $100USD per ticket (in India) and thats like 1000 SA Rands - you can take a family of four for 2 days worth of test matches for that.

Logistics are going to be very difficult to sort out - big task ahead.

Well the ol salesman in me see this as an ideal oppotunity to get our own league up n running.

The way the ECB are dragging their feet - it wont happen for a couple of years.

We're not even capable of selecting a captain for our two teams at the moment - setting up a league seems miles away but would be something to interest the fans here.

We could always ask Stanford if he can lend us some of his dodgy cash - he wont be needing it

After missing the boat n allowing the IPL to get up n running first - this is an ideal situation.

They should start with just 8 teams - They should have no problem finding owners tv deals n sponsors.

Get it running from last week in July to end just before or on when the footy season re-starts - they will have a monopoly of interest of all media outlets.

2 groups of 4 - top two through for semi's - n a final anywhere but Lords.

Not much to outlay - quick simple to understand format - smash bang woolop - You wont need to refer to a third umpire to see if its got a life in this country.

If you did it at the end of the Test series - ud have all the Aussies to pick from too.
