Boss Fabio Capello has named his squad to face France in next weeks International friendly.
A provisional squad of 30 has been selected and will be cut down to 23 by Saturday evening - interesting as 13 of the players in this squad will be playing on Sunday - aah, here come the phantom injuries, that last untill Wednesday evening.
The squad in full:
Goalkeepers: James (Portsmouth), Carson (Aston Villa), Kirkland (Wigan)
Defenders: Bridge (Chelsea), A Cole (Chelsea), Johnson (Portsmouth), Terry (Chelsea), Brown (Man Utd), Lescott (Everton), Ferdinand (Man Utd), Wheater (Middlesbrough), Woodgate (Tottenham), Upson (West Ham)
Midfielders: Barry (Aston Villa), Young (Aston Villa), Bentley (Blackburn), J Cole (Chelsea), Lampard (Chelsea), Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Man Utd), Downing (Middlesbrough), Jenas (Tottenham)
Forwards: Walcott (Arsenal), Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Crouch (Liverpool), Rooney (Man Utd), Owen (Newcastle), Defoe (Portsmouth).
yes - the media alarms are ringing endlessly - Sir David Beckham has been called up - and is sure to get his 100th cap...please get it over with...it really is time to move forward, all this sentimental bull is killing me.
To be honest, as fans, the more interesting news is - Paul Robinson misses out again, so do Robert Green and United youngster Ben Foster.
To the defenders, JT's back, and an interesting inclusion of Boro defender David Wheater, and Lescott retains his place.
Into the middle of the park - Michael Carrick misses out alltogether, and Aaron Lennon fails to make the cut too (also fails to make U21 squad) - personally, 2 very telling omissions - but a long time to go till any meaningful game. Frank Lampard returns as expected.
Upfront - he's back - Theo Walcott makes his return to the England first team squad with hope of actually wearing the jersey this time, Jermaine Defoe is also called up, and supposedly 4th choice striker Michael Owen is in the squad too, with Peter Crouch expected to miss out the final 23.
Ledly King is fit, but has only just returned for Spurs so no risk is being taken there, Emile Heskey and Nicky Shorey miss out from Capello's first squad.
