Fabio Capello has been told by the Football Association that the man he chooses to captain England should be beyond reproach in his dealings with match officials. FA chairman Lord Triesman says Capello is free to choose his own man, but 'Whoever captains England has to be capable of understanding the sense of proportion that is needed, that it is not about winning at all costs.' Triesman identified Rio Ferdinand as a outstanding candidate for a job.
According to the Mirror, Capello has settled on Rio. Capello has been keen to make a complete break from the McClaren era in his choice of captain and that gives the edge to Ferdinand.
